: : Sorry. Excalibur is just too full of schlock and stereotypes. Not to mention the bad acting and dialogue. Look and feel mean nothing if the movie itself isn't there. And the last thing "The Lord of the Rings" needs is all that stupid glowing plate armor. That wasn't King Arthur, and it sure isn't Middle-earth.: Very good point! The cover of the video alone with it's shiny armor and cheesy sword kept me from renting it! : I despise movies with unrealistic arms and armor. Take Conan for example with that big 'ol meat cleaver he carried, any half-capable moron with a cut-and-thrust would slice someone like that to ribbons! Which was exactly why I liked it. It tried to live up to the romanticized version of the Authurian legend, not the honest-to-god version, but what every schoolboy first through about when it came to medieval knights. We all grew out of it and realized that no one had shiny armor, and most fights would leave both combatants dead if not from the actual blows landed then from the septic dysentary and infection. But, and perhaps this is my own optimism coming out, I really enjoy that film. I like the portrayl of Merlin, and his relationship to Arthur, and the interplay with the rest of the cast. It just left me feeling like I felt as a boy and read about Aurthur and Camelot.
