: How about entering M-E sometime in the first centuries of the Second Age? No nasty wars to get yourself killed in, and no knowledge of that time that you might unwittingly reveal to everyone's destruction.

I would wander through the halls and mines Khazad Dum if allowed. Seeing the greatest of dwarf achievements while it was being crafted, long before Durin's Bain was released from its prison, listening to the dwarves sing (I have often wondered what that would really sound like), and the music from hammers, anvils, chisels and picks. That would be why I would go to middle-earth. If I could see these things, and yet harm none with the knowelege that I have tucked carefully away. The fall of Khazad Dum is part of what makes this idea so romantic (despite the fact that it was all in Tolkien's imagination), the fact that I never could see it in its glory because it had fallen.
