Maybe someone could write about the further adventures of Merry and Pippen. Or trouble could brew for Aragon's son (whatshisname?) after he assumes the crown.

I've always been somewhat against this idea...very much against it, actually, in terms of an established "world" in which other authors can write, like David Brin taking over Asimov's Foundation series. But, paradoxically, I once had the irresistable urge to write a JRRT fan fiction story:
