: I read the story also. I must ask if you read thewhole thing?
: Granted his history is a little messed up and the beginning is
: a bit slow but all in all he did a good job on it. IT wasn't
: anything to be compared with Tolkien but I don't think any of
: us could have done better. I have always wanted to know more
: about The Last Alliance and I thought that it was pretty good.

I have read part of the story and I found it to be absolute drivel in terms the quality of the writing. Our opinions of Crawford's writing are no doubt as varied as people's opinions of any secondary author's writing. Some people will like it, some people will hate it, and some people will really not have a strong feeling either way.

But the history was more than just a "little messed up". He absolutely mangled it. Crawford's Middle-earth is nothing like Tolkien's Middle-earth. There were no Corsairs in Umbar at the end of the Second Age, and Osgiliath was never taken. In fact, Sauron's invasion of Gondor was stopped in the mountains.
