Would he then have some of the foresight given to that people as well as the other 'gifts' compared to ordinary mortal men? Is that why he was so powerful, or just purely down to his ring???He was probably one of the Numenorean inhabitants of the coastal area south of Umbar. According to several hints given throughout The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and LotR, the Lord of the Nazgul was a sorceror of old, and despite his acceptance of a Ring of Power, he still possessed an independent will 6000+ years later. Whoever he was in origin, he must have been quite a powerful character.
