: : : I recently was reading some in the Sil, about Tuor, and this aroused one question... What ever happened to Tuor and the weapon/sheild/helm/cloak that Ulmo assigned to him in Nevrast? Any insights?

: : I'm fairly certain that Tuor wore them when he and Idril Celebrindal set out to sea. They went off and "came no more into any tale or song." He certainly didn't leave them for his son (we would've heard about that), and perhaps with those gifts he mastered the powers of Ulmo and Osse and was led to Aman. We can always hope...

: Tuor's only physical gift from Ulmo was a cloak (formerly a small part of the Spirit's own), it vanished when it had "done its part" in Gondolin- ie after Tuor had said his piece to Turgon and became himself again. The other trappings; mail and sword, and possibly shield and helmet (I cannot remember how much gear he got) were left by Turgon when he left Nevrast. It was left on the bidding of Ulmo so that Turgon and his people (guards) might the easier recognise Ulmo's messenger when the time was ripe.

When Tuor left to sea he still had the equipment he had recieved in Nevrast, bu since he was only a man, he must have died and Idril may well have gone back to Aman. What then might have happened to the equipment and ship? Perhaps Tuor had learned of the ways of the sea, and being in the favour of the Vala, was granted everlasting life. Either way, it would be interesting to know what became of the equipment, because, in the TA the pickings on powerful items were very slim, and these items sounded like they were forged by Feanor himself (though they were not)... This arouses another thought. Is anything ever said about the weapon of Feanor? Fingolfin had an extremely powerful sword (Ringil), and he wasn't even as good a smith as Feanor.
