: : I don't think that's correct. Christopher Tolkien stated that : : the Gil-galad son of Fingon was an "ephemeral" idea and should : : not have been included in his version of the Silmarillion. : : CJRT was quite clear that Gil-galad son of Orodreth was his : : fathers primary and continuing conception of his genealogy: Quite correct. THE SILMARILLION's depiction of Gil-galad is simply wrong and Christopher Tolkien has admitted so. It was he who put in the stuff about Gil-galad being sent to the havens, not JRRT. He has repudiated that addition to the text. But doesn't it seem more likely that JRRT would have wanted Gil-Galad to be Fingon's son? It would have given him an almost undisputed claim to be High King of the Noldor wouldn't it? -Thentaran
