: Quite correct. THE SILMARILLION's depiction of Gil-galad is simply wrong and Christopher Tolkien has admitted so. It was he who put in the stuff about Gil-galad being sent to the havens, not JRRT. He has repudiated that addition to the text.

What is incorrect about my presentation of the development of Gil-galads parentage?
