yeah i wasn't saying that orc's weren't the main tool... more like they weren't the only tool... sure the orc's had numbers... but a one balrog could easy equal large numbers of orcs. i.e Gandalf it more then a match for a fair sized group of orc's... but he he struggled in fighting the balrog in moria... also look at the history of dragon battles.. look at lonely mountain for a start.. nice and east.. from hobbit.. one draggon.. hundreds of dwarves... dragon wins (not long long term.. but short term). but the same group of dwarves could take on heaps and heaps of orc's and kill them... (note i am not talking about thorins company.. but the org 1000's of dwares that lived under the mountain) also look at the diff warriors that died at the hands of dragons.. elf friends... that had killed heaps and heaps of orcs and so on.. but fail to kill a dragon.
