: Sauron was already in possession of the One Ring. In fact, when he put the One on his finger, the elves became aware of him and removed their rings and did not use their rings untill Sauron no longer wore the One Ring. We are talking about different wars. I am speaking about the WOTR, you about the last Alliance's war against Sauron. Both had the same reason though: Sauron wanted to conquer the NW ME. To a separate issue: I have often wondered why the elves had time to remove their rings in the SA? Was it because Sauron hadn't yet mastered his own ring? Tamim the OLOG
