: While I think the elves would fair well (we would probably try and make them into movie stars) the dwarves especially would be the objects of pretty intense racism. I think hobbits might tend to be victimized. I think Tolkien's people would find our world less hospitable than their own.

Less hospitable is an understatement! With how racist this world is, we would be waging all-out wars with every race. Some scientists would come along and convince everyone that elves evolved from butterflies, hobbits from sugar cane, and dwarves are animated volcano mishaps! Then we would believe that ourselves superior, and would attempt to rid the world of them. This world would be very athiest to say the least. I would much rather go to Middle-earth than have them come here.
