: well i think that is any of u here have read ay arhurian tales etc u would see just how bad it can get.: Aurleus and Urther both had trouble rallying the british fuedal kings to going to war to defend against incoming barbarians.. and they were trying ot protect the holdings and the kings holding back meant that the forces were not always strong enough... and the kings oftern got attakced when the min force failed. : Arthur when he was alive had the same problem... but it was even worse for him as he didn't have his own army.. he was just king... : although we won't get started on the diff opinions of arthurian tales.. we could be here longer then Tolkien threads...LOL Feudalism as a basis of government had not yet evolved during the reigns of Aurelius and Arthur. The governmental model was still based upon the Roman system of middle class land magnates and a large proportion of low-wage labor. Concerning the army of Arthur, it is likely that he possessed no standing army at all, but rather a band of cavalry based on the Roman auxiliaries - perhaps 600 troops, give or take. He seemed to have had more in common with the Fianna of Ireland than with the sixth century kings of Wales.
