I don't understand this debate going on about eating and farming Elves. Any argument which relies upon the absence of denial is invalid. Tolkien doesn't deny that the Elves had four arms and tentacles growing out of their heads, but there is no doubt they didn't appear so.

He did state in no uncertain terms that they had to eat, and that they raised their own food. The debate is rather pointless, as far as I can see.

There are too many examples of Elves eating to try and be comprehensive, so I'm not going to devote any effort to providing citations. They are easy enough to find. That the Elves raised food, that they celebrated marriages and other special occasions with feasts, demonstrates clearly that they ate. That they had to make special provision for journeys (such as lembas) demonstrates they HAD to eat.

There is nothing to be gained by trying to rationalize away the fact that Elves grew the food they ate.
