: : : : :snip : : : : : On the same thought, how tall were men on Minas Tirith. In the LOTR, it says that the average height of a hobbit was four feet, or a little less. I am going from memory of what I read in the back of Return of the King. If I am wrong i am sure I will find out soon enough. ;-) : : : : : But whin the fellowship breaks, and Boromir tries to take the ring, Frodo looks at Boromir and it is said that he was twice the size of the hobbit! Was Frodo just short as hobbits go, was Boromir extremely tall, or was the description of Boromir's height in this chapter an hyperbole. : : : : : Check in again soon : : : : : Dulcinea: : : : Adult hobbits varied in height from 3ft to never more 4ft. If Frodo height was average(3'-6"), Boromir would be close to 7ft tall, not that extreme.~Aelmer : : : Excuse me but does twice the size mean twice as tall? Don't we all talk that way all the time? : : I have a five year old son who is about 3'8" tall, and weighs about 50 lbs. I am 6'3" and weigh 200 lbs. Although I'm not twice as tall, I'm certainly more than twice as big. : Since Dulcinea specifically mentioned hobbit height, I followed that path, but I agree with you about 'twice the size'. Also, the story is told from Frodo's point of view. I'm sure we all remember just how big our parents looked when we were little, especially if they were angry or about to chastise us. : ~Aelmer And don't forget that quite often in the trilogy, it is said that whenever someone gets angry the swell in size. It happened with Gandalf and Aragorn, and it might have happened with Boromir as well.
