: : Hey is it just me.. or are there almosr no repeated names amoungst the elves??

: : maybe it is Tolkien doing the "english" thing of the middle ages.. when u had like 7 Henrys and 50 Edwards and so on.

: : maybe it just shows the creativity of the elves to all have different names.. or am i just missing some*?

: : the only one* i can think of it Gelmir.. yet there are a load of doubles in amoungst the humans.

: Let's not forget Legolas Greenleaf. Not the Legolas of the Fellowship, but the one who led the survivors from Gondolin in The Fall of Gondolin.

I was under the (apparently misconceived) impression that the elf leading the survivors was named Glorfindel?
I also believe that the lack of reused elven names stems from a common trait of reusing names within lineages and since elves do not really die (or at least only rarely) their names cannot be reused.
