But they did use elements of their own names in the names of their children, at least early on. According to different version of Laws and Customs among the Eldar, Feanor was originally named Finwion (Son of Finwe), then renamed Curufinwe when his talents were revealed. Likewise Fingolfin was Nolofinwe and Finarfin was Arafinwe. According to a footnote, Fingolfin actually went by Ingoldo (which signified a merging of the people of Ingwe with the Noldor. When he was committed the rule of the Noldor, he was known as Ingoldo-finwe.Likewise, One of Feanor's sons was Curufin, a variation of his father's name. Interesting stuff.
