: Not all academics shun Tolkien. My original exposure to Middle Earth came in an English class in junior high. I subsequently took an excellent class on Tolkien at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Interesting...
I was not aware that Tolkien was being introduced in grade-school. Perhaps this seems so because I was educated in a British society. Perhaps he is not being shunned by all academics (just most of those of his country).
