: line of Earendil...' Christopher Tolkien changed the text in UNFINISHED TALES to conform to his editorial insertion in THE SILMARILLION. He has thoroughly repudiated the statement that Fingon was Gil-galad's father in both THE WAR OF THE JEWELS and THE PEOPLES OF MIDDLE-EARTH.
