( snip ): You're rehashing points which have already been addressed (in several cases, more than once) in the current discussions and all the objections you raise have been shown to be invalid. : I had just finished uploading a new Web page however, before seeing your message, so I'll give you the URL here. Personally I am not against the Balrog having wings. I have always imagined the Balrog to be some what like a demon. However I have to reply to when I am uneasy with such a statement. One of your most often repeated arguements is that Tolkien wrote it, so there fore it must be so. Now I donīt beleive that to understand the LORD OF THE RINGS, you must have had to read THE BOOK OF LOST TALES, THE SILMARILLION or any other book. Neither is it necessary to know what Tolkien wrote in the 1930īs or any other period. LOTR is an independent work of art, and is there fore a self contained work. And the Balrogs wings are only mentioned in the chamber of the bridge. I agreee that here Tolkien does state that the Balrog has wings, but the fact remains that no matter how convincing your arguements are, no matter how narrow the chamber, the Balrog never flies. Not once.
I agree that it might have been able to fly, but that is mere conjacture. My point is simple, and adheres to your rule. I donīt beleive that I am " re hashing" old points, I am stating the case as I see it. Jan
