: I was wondering.. : At the end of the Third Age there are still three Palantiri in Middle Earth, right? The one in Orthanc, the one in Minas Tirith, and the one kept by the elves in Lindon. : But how can Pippin have used the one taken from Orthanc and with that one have communicated with Sauron? I mean, unless Sauron had a fourth one that was linked to the one of Orthanc, he would have contacted Denethor in Minas Tirith. Or did Sauron need no Palantir to communicate with it. The one in Lindon was said to be be not linked to the others, because it looked only over the sea, so that Elendil could look back on Eressea. : So, what's the deal then?Sauron communicated with Saruman's Orthanc-stone with the captured Ithil-stone of Minas Ithil.
