: : Where did old man willow come from? was he one of Morgoth's : : "inventions"?: About Old Man Willow: Isn't it possible that he is an Ent, : somehow corrupted to evil? Or are there only Ents in Fangorn? The strong implication of the story is that Ents only survived to the end of the Third Age in Fangorn. The weak implication is that they may have survived elsewhere. Willow might be an ancient Ent, but Tolkien never comes out and says so. And Ent can indeed grow "treeish" and stop moving around. I should probably point out that the trees of the Old Forest, or at least some of them, did move around. The Willow-is-an-Ent theory is therefore not unreasonable, but it's unprovable.
