: That is the only HM version I have. My wife bought it for me last Christmas and until yesterday when I discovered the Thorongil disparity, I hadn't opened it. It's just too nice to smear my dirty fingerprints?

I understand. I have two copies of the illustrated version. One went with me overseas when I was in the Navy. And I bought another copy and left it in its plastic wrapper. I also had two copies of the "red" collectors edition, but gave the older version to my daughter. I also had a leather bound edition from Easton Press, which I also gave to my daughter, but to be honest, I wasn't that impressed with that version, despite the gilt edged pages and all. If they make a leather bound illustrated version, I'd like that more.
