: Thanks for your reply. I am of the same opinion. CT does : mention that there are variant readings to some of the : passages and so he had to do some minor editing before : publishing. But he does not specify what that was. I am : involved in a debate elsewhere with a person who says that CT : went through that narrative and changed names added and : deleted passages, rewrote things in it to make consistant with : the published Silmarillion, took items from the Grey Annals : and placed them therein etc. The other party has yet to show : me any specific change that was made (though) and where her : information comes from. I have read virtually all the : published corpus and recall nothing to verify her claim, but I : just wanted to double check my own facts. The other person is most likely confusing what Christopher said he did to produce the story of Tuor and Gondolin in THE SILMARILLION with UNFINISHED TALES. I don't believe significant changes were made to the UF text. There would have been no reason to make such changes, and Christopher's only admission of alteration to date that I can think of concerns his changing Gil-galad's letter in "Aldarion and Erendis". Generally speaking, if they cannot provide a citation, they are probably wrong. I've found myself in that position more than once. It's no big thing to misremember something. Of course, I don't have UNFINISHED TALES here with me to check it....
