You may be completely correct. I am not the learned loremaster that some on this board are. However, if I were to try to imprison a Balrog, here's what I would do:1- Dig a bog hole, roughly the size of a mountain range inverted.
2- Surround the Balrog with strongest metal known to Middle Earth, say . . . I dunno . . . mithril? And when I say surround, I mean it in the sense of pouring the metal around the creature to encase it
3- Drop a mountain on top of the mithril prison. I'm not saying that's what did happen, but the facts do stand for that case. The dwarves were mining mithril and following the vein when they awakened the Balrog. Whether he was simply sleeping it off in Khazad Dum from the last big Balrog Party, I dunno. But a Balrog with a hangover can't be much fun. ;) -RR
