Now this does not mean that the Balrog would have been able to keep Sauron from taking the Ring. The results of a Balrog/Sauron Texas Death Match would have been interesting. I'll take the Balrog plus seven points. ;-) I think we need to clarify here. Balrog with the Ring, take the Balrog, give points. Balrog w/o Ring vs. Sauron w/o Ring, take Sauron but don't bet the farm. Balrog vs. Sauron with the Ring, buy stock in Balrog-sized burial plots. On second thought, Sauron w/o his Ring probably counldn't defeat a balrog, Sauron having put so much of his power into the Ring.
