snip: Either way... I'm looking forward to a great movie and hopefully lots of great scenes with my favorite characters, Gandolf, Gimli and Legolas. I haven't gotten to the part in the book yet, but I hear Glorfindel is the one who meets the fellowship on the way to Rivendale and in the movie its Legolas. But I hear rumors that its neither in the live action movie... who is it suppose to be? (Asks a disappointed Legolas Fan) In the text, it is Glorfindel who meets Aragorn, Frodo, et.al., in the movie Bakshi replaced Glorfindel with Legolas, which was a bad thing because it meant that Legolas and Aragorn had met previously, which is rather erroneous on a number of levels (that's a purist problem, not really a movie problem). There are a number of rumors surrounding who will meet the Aragorn and Frodo at the Fords, and many of them say a sword toting Arwen. Arwen, while a major factor in the book (she is the main reason Aragorn seeks to regain his kingdom) it does require some digging to understand why. The appendix contains a great peice on Aragorn and Arwen and the why of it becomes very plain, but most people choose to not read the Appendix (though you won't hear that on this board). The problem with the lack of information on Arwen (such as her ability to weild a weapon bigger then an embroidery needle) has proven to be a MAJOR point of discussion concerning her role in the movie. I believe that Mr. Martinez posted an article as Suite 101 concerning Arwen and her potential movements and abilities, which were gleaned from her petigree and some logical conjecture. In the whole, however, the major rumors are that Arwen will have a much greater viewable pressence in the upcoming movies then she had in LOTR. -RR
