: : : I believe to power to heal goes back to Earendil and the Elessar which Idril gave to him before setting sail. The Elessar (see Unfinished Tales) would restore that which was withered and "the hands of one who held it brought to all that they touched healing from hurt."

: : I'm sorry, but I'm not following you here. Are you saying that the power to heal came from the Elessar, rather than being a hereditary 'talent'?

: I am saying that the original healing talent may have come from the Elessar. Earendil then passed this talent (or gift) onto his descendants.

We are talking about the bloodline. Elrond was a great healer though not in possession of the Elessar. Aragorn refers to him as the 'eldest of our race' and as 'having the greater power', though Aragorn is at the time in possession of the Elessar. Aragorn by using 'race' is refering to the kinship.
Or are you suggesting that the healing powers of the gem passed into Earendil's genetic makeup and he then passed that onto his descendants?
