: Uh... like back in the late 60's early 70's I think. (Its an animation.) It was the first to come out. It had the goofy drawings (probably great in those days.) But its still very cute. And they had the folk songs like "The greatest adventure" and such. It was a very cute movie. I like it.

For my money it changes the entire tone of the book. it makes Biblbo rather haughty and arrogant, and the dwarves rather cowardly and "wimpish". But it is worth a look to form your own opinion.

Both The Hobbit (Arthur Rankin Jr.) and The Lord of the Rings (Ralph Bakshi) were released in 1978. Though The Hobbit was made for TV (it's painfully obvious when the scene ends for a commercial break). (Arthur Rankin Jr.) was also released for TV in 1980.
