Ok, here's one for you all..... In the tale of years, for the dates after the fall of barudur,it gives Arwen and her escort as leaving Lorien on the 27th May. They meet the sone of Elrond and reach Edoras on June 14th. This is a journey of 17 days - all months having 30 days... Now - rough distance from Lorien to edoras is 220 miles (from measuring on a large scale map). Therefore it takes them 17 days to travel 220 miles, at 220/17 = 12.9 miles a day. If we assume they ride for 8 hrs a day ( not exactly strenuos!!) this means they have an average speed of 1.6 miles an hour, or roughly half that of walking pace. Bit slow eh? Arwen must be a bit pent up with not seeing her man for a bit - surely a bit of speed would have been a thing for her ( the old marriage consumation here). Seems a bit odd that they would've been beaten in the journey by a lame snail... especially after waiting for 60 odd years to actually arrive at the moment. What do you reckon?
