I don't see how Gandalf could have had a hand in rousing the Ents, though. Treebeard got all his information from Merry and Pippin (except whatever Gandalf told him later at Isengard).The question remains: What was Gandalf doing in Fangorn forest (a minimum of) two days prior to the arrival of Merry and Pippin?
