Bregolas dies. His brother Barahir becomes the leader of the House of Beor.

Why? Bregolas had two adult sons at the time, Baragund and Belegund. Why didn't Baragund become lord of the House of Beor?

If Baragund hadn't died alongisde Barahir, would Baragund or Beren have become the lord of the people of Beor?

(Btw, if Gil-galad had been Fingon's son, the situation would be similar, with Fingon's brother rather than Fingon's son becoming High King)
