: : You have completely rewritten the sentence and put words : : into Christopher Tolkien's mouth he never spoke (or into his : : hand that he never wrote). The statement is that his : : father's last word on the matter of Gil-galad's parentage is : : that Gil-galad was the son of Orodreth.: : Fictional characters or not, he WAS the son of Orodreth, : : indisputably so. : The implication of Aris message (at least as I read it) was : that he was not claiming those sentences to be CT's. He said : somthing to the effect that he (Aris) would construct the : sentences in this way. That is (as I read it) he was not : miscontruing the sentences to be something CT wrote. The character does not belong to Aris or any of us. We are left only with what has been published, not with how others would have worded either J.R.R. Tolkien's decision or Christopher's report of it.
