I always imagined the elves to be akin to the ancient Celts, rich in lore and craftsmanship and lovers of songs.

This would mean an Irish accent would not be out of place, although maybe Welsh would be more appropriate, as Tolkien was definitely more into Welsh than Irish (Gaelic).

Likewise, the dwarves, with their flowing beards and battleaxes are based on a non marine Viking archetype. At first impression ferocious, tough and uncompromising, but if you get to know them better, you discover that they too are masters of a great civilisation and achievements. Maybe the dwarves should speak with nordic accents?
