: Due to popular demand (OK, OK, two of you), here's the major spoiler for ep #18 ("Prophecy"). : The gypsy-woman Isadora is travelling through the jungle with her horse carriage Is this the same gypsy-type witchdoctor lady from "Nectar"? She was the worst actress they've had so far. Aren't there any hags in Australia, or is the demographics of the acting troupes such that only the young, athletic, good-looking actresses are available? : Later, Isadora thanks them (especially the men) for her rescue. Marguerite and Veronica seem considerably less delighted about their new guest than Malone and Roxton, who sit down with Isadora who introduces herself as a fortune teller, while a fuming Veronica puts up the tent for the night without any help from the two lovesick morons. Marge and Veronica probably recognize bad acting when they see it. : ---------- : At another part of the plateau, Challenger and Summerlee are gathering plants. They notice dinosaurs hiding in the bushes, but whenever Challenger aims his rifle at them they disappear from sight. Apparently, they've learned from previous experiences (thereby greatly reducing Michael's fear of a dramatic decline in the plateau's dinosaur population). Good one! : ---------- : Meanwhile, Isadora is making lots of prophecys (what do you expect from a fortune teller). Here's a short run-down of some of them: : - about Veronica's parents: "I see bodys in chains" Is Veronica's mother a young, good-looking Australian actress? :) : - about Veronica: "You will turn into a plant" (DON'T ASK) : - about Malone: "I see death. In two days you will fight a beast with razor-sharp claws" : ---------- : Challenger and Malone have set up a camp for the night, wondering about the clever dinosaurs. I think you meant "Summerlee", but that's ok. : ---------- : ---------- : Meanwhile, Challenger and Summmerlee discover that the dinosaurs have bitten through the ropes fastening their balloon. Now they have to follow the balloon till it comes down again, while themselves being followed by the dinosaurs. (nasal-toned racetrack announcer voice ON) "And in the backstretch its Red Beard and Slow Old Man with Dino A Dino and Rex The Beast close behind. Dino A Dino coming up now with Red Beard and Slow Old Man holding the turn. Slow Old Man starting to fade in the straightaway with Dino A Dino coming up on the outside. Its Red Beard and Slow Old Man in the stretch...Red Beard and Slow Old Man... Red Beard and Slow Old Man...At the finish line its Red Beard by a length!" : ---------- : At Kayzan's camp, his people are celebrating their successful raid. During the celebration they all wear their animal-masks again (I SAID DON'T ASK). After a hard day's work, I like to come home and put on my stuffed leopard headgear and full face paint. What's wrong with using that in the show? :) : ---------- : In the gang's camp, Marguerite and Roxton are tied to a pole in a hut. Is this another missed cheesecake opportunity? :He tries to convince her to shoot him and save her own life. She says no. He kisses her on the forehead (seems to be fashionable this episode). Did he remember to untie her feet first? :) :Kayzan appears and they are brought outside. Marguerite is handed a pistol to kill Roxton. She won't do it, but Roxton implores her to shoot him. She finally points the gun at his head and ..... shoots him! Ooops, sorry! Of course, she doesn't shoot him, because Malone appears just in time, challenging Kayzan to a duel. She should've used it on the writers, who stuck the two best actors of the group with the jobs that required the least acting skills. : In the camp, Kayzan has put on a glove with razor-sharp claws (no O.J. jokes here, please). THE BEAST WITH RAZOR-SHARP CLAWS! WILL ISADORA'S PROPHECY COME TRUE? FIND OUT NEXT WEEK! Fortunately, you don't have to wait that long, because I'm here to tell you. :-) Whew! I was getting a little nervous there! :) : Malone holds his own pretty well in the fight, but would probaly have lost in the end (just my prediction ;-)). However, Kayzan gets struck in the neck by Veronica's poisonous dart, without anyone noticing it. Veronica and Isadora hold the gang in check with their weapons while freeing Marguerite and Roxton. Malone then gets a big thank-you kiss from Marguerite (no forehead this time). And then Roxton promptly gave him a rub about finally becoming a man, right? :) : Meanwhile, Malone asks Veronica about a reward for the hero of the day (she has wisely not told him that it was her dart that killed Kayzan). She smiles at him, knocks him to the ground with a blow to the jaw, then kisses him (no forehead), saying that they're even now. You gotta like a woman that can break a man's jaw in one moment, and seduce him a second later. : : --------------------------------------------- : : OK, having written so much, I've run out of steam a little bit to make a longer evaluation of this episode. Just a few comments: : - This was TLW close to its campy best. Lots of action, cheesecake and a bit of character development. The two couples have been brought closer together, especially Veronica and Malone whose relationship was handled rather poorly in "Birthright" and "Resurrection". I think the writers are starting to run out of ideas for character development, though. Two romances in one show? They're gonna burn out before the end of next season! : - Gypsys in the jungle? Yep, why not (please notice my new fatalistic approach). As I said before, I won't get into the old discussion this time. Hey, whatever it takes to tell the story, right? : - Challenger and Summerlee. This is becoming a problem. Their meager storyline was only an excuse to have them on-screen at all. Apparently, the writers couldn't bring themselves to leave the two completely out of an episode for the second time in a row. The focus clearly is on the two couples at the moment. And that's going to be the downfall of the show. Cheesecake, action, and romance is fine and dandy, but its not a whole show. Summerlee and Challenger are scientists (played by two fine actors). They should be the ones dealing with the satirical storylines about modern society and Man's role in the Universe, not running through the jungle chasing a balloon. Such a pity... : All in all, a clear improvement on "Resurrection" and (especially) "Birthright". Let me know what you people in the U.S. think, once the episode has aired. We got a repeat of "More Than Human" this week. Hopefully we'll get the new material in a week or so. Enjoy!
