Hi again, everybody! I have been meaning to post this for AGES:There is a book by MARK FROST called "THE LIST OF 7" (in German the book is called "SIEBEN", but it has NOTHING to do with the film featuring Brat Pitt and Morgen Freeman!) which is about ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE! I only remembered recently that I read it about two years ago. It is a MUST read, I tell you that! Here is, what it is about: "London, Christmas 1884: A letter, written by a mysterious stranger, lures the physician and author Arthur Conan Doyle to an occult Séance - the beginning of a seemingly inescapable, horrific nightmare. Hunted by develish conspirators and living mummies, Doyle finds an obscure complice in his fight against the forces of evil: What is Jack Sparks role in this crazy game, in which Satan himself seems to be commanding the warriors of darkness?" This is the cover text, not very informative, I agree... But it is a great mystery-occult thriller (turned out to be a great bestseller, too) where nothing is quite the way it seems to be. It's really well written and has a great story line. Also, since this story sets place in a time were you couldn't simple put on the electric light, once it got dark, the author plays a lot with our primeval fear of darkness. For example, there is a scene I remember, one of my favourites: Doyle is looking for somebody in the British Libary. It is the evening hours and darkness slowly settles in. He crosses a hall where there is a large staircase with a stone lion on a pilar on either side looking straight ahead. As Doyle is knocking on a door, he suddenly hears a sound and turns around (remember, the light is dim, he cannot really see to well), but there is noone there. But what is that? This is odd... he could have sworn those two lions had been looking straight ahead just two minutes ago... Now there heads were turned and their red, glowing eyes were staring right at him in the dark... Uuuuuuuuh, spooky!!! I won't tell you more thank that, just go and read the book, and whatever you do: DON'T LOOK AT THE LAST PAGE OR THE BOOK AND ITS END WILL BE SPOILED!!! ENJOY!
