Hey, Kartas was shot and fell down. Nobody checked to see if he was dead. Never assume. One small bullet does less damage than a hunting knife! I really liked the interaction between him and Roxton. Roxton needs a friend he can be on an equal basis with - instead of being paternal toward Malone, and well, just not a comfortable real friendship with either of the professors.
