For many years I was a TV Drama Producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and our group of 4 producers quickly learned that it was always wise to keep in touch with our viewers' tastes and carefully balance them against what we wanted them to see, if we wanted to kep our ratings up to par. A middle course worked best: popular themes of all kinds were expanded, and unpopular ones phased out. This had little to do with actual plotlines. We stayed afloat for 12 years and only disbanded when network policy changed and local dram was abandoned in favor of larger full-Network productions.: The day that fans dictate the continuing plotlines of a : television series is a sad day for television. Decisions are : made for a reason, though the audience may not be aware : of them at the time. Let the chips fall where they may, sit : back and enjoy the show.
