I believe I'll be able to show how many messages a thread has posted to it and when the last one was posted. Some systems have a "thread rising to the top" mechanism to inidicate a thread has new messages. I haven't decided whether to try this myself.

I don't intend to use the little folder icons or cookies (at first -- I may add them later). I would have to set cookies to show visitors which threads had been updated since they last checked. That would take quite a while for me to implement, and would slow down page loading (although perhaps not by much).
