: Faust: I will agree that she could be British and that she sold the German's out for personal gain and they found out about it. But, I think it highly likely that she is Austrian, as does Silver, or German, and that she was sent to British schools to get rid of her. Carla2: Why? It could be a great storyline, but why would her german parents want to get rid of her? : Carla :And I think Liz raises a rather interesting point: if she passed herself as german, they would've felt betrayed anyway. : Faust: What makes you think so? If they thought she was German, they would consider her a traitor. Carla2: I mean, if they found out she lied to them. : Carla: Given that the germans lost WWI, I think that even if they recognized that Marguerite was a soldier to her country, they would still be mad. : Faust: Why should they be? She was a patriot exposing herself to considerable danger to serve her country. Carla2: Point taken. Still, she was in that context very brave and a great patriot, still she went against the german, and while you can recognize the value in an enemy, it's still and enemy. : Carla: Her being a spy for England may just be an act of convenience (which is her usual motivation) given the time she lived in. : Faust: I think the British forced her to comply, or she had to spy to save her fortune, or both. Carla2: Now you've really picked my curiosity, why would the british force her? Supossely she was just another british lady, why would them sent her as an spy without further information? : Carla: She is a character that cares about herself above anything else (at least that was the way in her early days), so it makes sense that she bacame a spy because she knew she had the abilities for it and because it suit her at the time. : Faust: She is not self - centered because she was spoiled. She is that way because she had to survive her parent's, at least her mother's abuse. She will act in her own interests at all costs because that is all she knows how to do. If she became a spy it was because the British insisted or her fortune depended on it. Carla2: I never said she was self-centered because she was spoiled, I think she's self-centered because she's a survivor, and she needed to be self-centered.
