Well, there are many assumptions being made here (both on the show and by anyone commenting on it). For example, we could assume that the advanced science of the other species has found ways to make inter-species breeding possible -- perhaps somehow forcing genetic material to "evolve" for the mating process. Or the presumption may simply be that they are evolved closely enough along the same lines as us that there can indeed be interbreeding without much interventive therapy.

Statistically speaking, almost anything is possible, however unlikely it seems based on our empirical evidence.
