The disorder is referred to in that ep as, "Sebacean Heat Delirium". It is caused by the Sebacean body's inability to control extremes in body temperature. Excessive heat can do them in very quickly by causing heat-induced cellular damage that results in brain trauma. This trauma results in memory loss, lack of motor control, muscle tremors, and death. I imagine that extreme cold could do damage as well, resulting in slurred speech, lack of muscular control, uncontrollable muscle spasms, irreparable tissue damage and, eventually, death. I use the model of hypothermia in Humans to cite this example. (Sebacean heat delirium is probably much more common, as it is harder to cool the body down than to warm it up. The body is constantly producing heat simply by functioning normally. The consumption of fuel (carbohydrates, calories, etc.) by the muscles creates heat, much as a car engine produces heat as it burns gasoline.) To answer your question directly, the disorder is common to all Sebaceans, as they lack the body chemistry necessary to control their body temperature. They are not literally cold-blooded, as Aeryn is quite OBVIOUSLY mammalian. (Ahem) Unless there are cold-blooded mammals, or mammalian reptiles, in the FarScape universe, then this is simply a product of either natural or forced evolution. PeaceKeepers are composed primarily of Sebaceans, but PeaceKeepers are not a species, they are a military organization. Whew...that was long-winded. Sorry. Next time I'll limit myself to 500 words or less.
