My assessment of the dynamics of John, Aeryn, and Chiana based on the very few episodes I’ve seen. In other words, an opinion on fictitious characters with little info with which to work.
John is a kind, caring person. A caretaker and friend, as well as the de facto glue keeping them together. This colors all his relationships, as he wishes to see each of them do well and perhaps more importantly, he wants them to do well as a group. As for romance, John may have serious interest in Aeryn, but is hesitant to act on it as it could adversely effect their friendship and damage the group’s dynamics. I’d expect it to become more intense, but whether it will last, I’m not so sure. On the topic of John and Chiana, I’d say that John is at times attracted to Chiana, but sees her more as someone whom he wants to help find herself and to protect her from harm. Not quite a little sister, but not quite a love interest either. Could develop either way, but I’d lay odds on it heading the sister route.
Aeryn is full of bluster and bravado, but is an emotional wreck inside. The anchors in her life have all been uprooted and she continues to deal with it by not dealing with it. This keeps her from admitting how much she has come to truly care for those around her, but it is displayed in the ferocity in which she will fight to keep them from harm. As for her feeling for John, these are equally as confusing for her. She respects him, cares what happen to him, is physically and emotional attracted to him, but is scared of what all that could mean. If she commits to a greater romantic relationship, she fears that she will loose him. Something she does not want to even think about handling, so she avoids it by trying to keep up some of the emotional walls. However, John is really, really good at getting around those walls.
Chiana, hmmm… Scared little girl and mischievous minx, a chaotic whirlwind who’s had a rough go of it and survived by manipulating those around her. Chiana is learning to care and trust, which it seems she has been unable to do for quite some time. How she sees John, tough call. Base on what little info I have, Chiana trusts him more than anyone in a long time, she respects his opinion and is even attracted to him. Would she pursue a romantic relationship with John if she feels it would be reciprocated, I’d bet on it. However, I think she accepts him in a mentoring role, like a big brother, so she doesn’t need to pursue the relationship in the romantic direction if John doesn’t want it. As for D’Argo, well….
Now an interesting part could be how Chiana and Aeryn deal with each other. There is seems a little competition and rivalry going on, yet they are beginning to respect each others talents. It would be interesting to me if they did go for a love triangle, but if they do I would predict it would end up with John with Aeryn and Chiana with a broken heart.
Later,
Dominique [Sorry for being so long winded.]
