I guess it depends on how many people they get. I know that in the past the NYC ones had cruddy sound systems and some of the Creation reps certainly could have attended a Dale Carnegie course in manners.... So, even if a few fans try to hold Farscape-related events in the United States (and Creation MAY try to shut down or discourage unauthorized Farscape conventions), it will be expensive for them, too.
True, but if you keep alienating your customers, they won't come back, and I know a lot of people who will simply not attend Creations because of the way they're run. What some FS fans are riled up about (on the sci-fi board) is that Creation made their announcement about an August convention -- the same time that ScaperCon 2000, whose been advertising for quite a while -- has scheduled their con. Creation has a reputation, not unfounded, for doing that.
The biggest problem with Creation is that they're out to make a buck (I don't begrudge a business that, but...). They aren't fans themselves and don't offer the wonderful panels and intermingling that non-Creation events run. I've attended fan-run conventions where guests and fans mingle with no problem, and the fans aren't stuck behind lines and made to pay for autographs- one of the last Creations I attended - you couldn't get autographs - but you could pay Creation to buy autographed photos. :(
The reason Creation continues to flourish is there are too many fans who have never attended the smaller, more intimate cons.
