Of course, you've got some points. Luckily we are dealing in fanstasy. It has to be user-friendly enough so that a large section of the population can enjoy it enough to have it renewed season-after-season. But it's just like anything else. What makes "frell" more acceptable than...say..."f*ck"? Or all the other made-up words used as alien curse words? Uh...nothing--execept one has to have a star in the middle of the spelling. We do what they mean, yes ? That's like you say the word "bloody" in England, then say the same word here in the US...well, you get the idea. We know what it means, but won't get slapped by our Momma's for it. My favorite bit of convenient patching are the translator microbes that allow all aliens to understand each other. Great--creative idea! It was something that bothered me when I was young watching Star Trek. As in all storytelling, I guess a certain amount of suspension of disbelieve is required.
::What I don't understand is why Scorpius is convinced Crichton has wormhole technology. He's been inside Crichton's head and knows that John went thru the wormhole by accident, so what's Scorpius really looking for?::
The only answer I can give on this is a storyline that has been hinted at yet not played out. 1)JC's boomerang/slingshot theory on Earth created the wormhole that sucked up the Farscape. He didn't intend this end, but it happened. 2) Yes, Scorpius has been in John's head, and he saw where the aliens in the --oh, what is that eppy where JC thought he went back to earth through the wormhole and saw his Dad? Well, that ant-looking alien ***implied*** JC had more knowledge about wormholes than he himself suspected, or maybe they put more in his head, I don't know. Maybe he just has the *mind* to develope the science over time. But they did allude to that in the eppy I mentioned. Like unrealized potential. I'm sure when Scorpie finally gets his hands on Crichton again (and I have no doubt he will) that question will be answered and that thread knotted.
Question: at that time, if Crichton could make the wormhole and go home...would he? Maybe Scorpie thinks he can *speed-up* John's mental evolution. Half of him is from a race of mind manipulators. Also, maybe the aliens in the eppy I mentioned above were warning him: "Open a wormhole, and you can't always close it." That would leave Earth vunerable. Another catch in going home. John wouldn't want that --- anyway, I'm sure we'll find out. : Sometimes I wonder if Scorpius just wants Crichton for company:
There does seem to be an unexplained obession there. That made me laugh when JC said, "it's over, find yourself another girlfriend."
