: As a sci fan from the old Star Trek days until now, I have come to realize that what makes any sci fi great is the chemistry between the characters. The great part of FS is the tension between the characters caused by their cultural ignorance of each others backrounds and customs ... sometimes these differences reveal themselves as comical bumps and at other times as traumatic derailments between the characters...as long as the characters keep surprising each other with these little unknown tidbits about each other ~ the show will roar ahead ... the danger lies in over familiarity, which in and of itself can also be used to create great situations just as much as surprise can ~ there are some things after all we must be able to count on ~ or maybe not Also, I applaud the shows efforts to give all the characters a fairly equal slice of the pie - one of the tragedies of the old Star Trek series was that Sulu and Chekov and Uhura and Scotty were woefully underwritten ~ we all loved these characaters but what did we really know about them? Sad ~ I hope the writers give Virginia Hey's character some interesting plots to work with - with 800 years of history there HAS to be alot there to dig up Because Hey's character is so passive I fear she may get bumpd aside by the more aggressive characaters who are more action oriented ~ I hope this is not the case...As an ending note ~ I hope the show becomes secure enough in its own identity that there will also be episodes where some really comedic plots will be loosed upon us :) All in all ~ FS is a great ride ~ and Virginia Hey, if you read this...thank you for the most generous web site ever offered to fans of any show, anywhere ~ you are a generous soul to give so much to those of us that enjoy your work and the work of all your fellow actors ~ sincere thanks :) Francesco***

Hey! We know Scotty was Scottish damnit! That was...something..
Great points, though I think, John should quit with the whole: "This custom is so wierd I'll just ignore it's meaning and sentiment even though it's very important to my friend" rutine. He doesn't play a good Human Embassador when he threatens an old sorcerer woman to her face.
I would've sat there, nodded, and shut up. Then again, I would've died six minutes into the premiere, so who the hell am I to judge?
Anyway, that was a good shpeel you gave there about the show. (was that a compliment? you ask.) uh, yeah, well (kicking the floor) I ain't too good with dem complee-mentsas you could tell.
