: : you have 30 seconds if you breath out all your air but your eyes get sucked out of your head.

: Well guys, it ain't over yet. And well the propelling through space was a little on the wild side.

: Personally I think Moya is either being tested or she's going to have to realize that her creators are not all knowing diety. Or she's going to morph.

: I'm having trouble with the head too. But it could be a halogram, I'm not sure.

Urban Legend. All of it. It is possible to survive in a vacume for short periouds of time. And I'm not talking about one second or two here. The human body is constructed well enough that it can withstand an absense of pressure.

Your eyeballs aren't pulled out of your head. They don't even freeze solid, since heat is lost very slowly in space. Your body does not explode. Your lungs do not pop, or turn inside out, though the forceful exhalation of air into a zero-pressure environment can hurt you. Cappilaries under your skin will burst, giving you a really bad bruise, but that's about it. You can survive for close to 30 seconds before unconsiousness. All that crap was invented by the movies for the purpose of getting a cool visual

For a more realistic take, see the movie 2001. Here the main character has to move from his pod to the airlock of his ship. Through vacuum. Without a helmet.

'Nuff said.
