However, Morgoth must have unleashed the dragons very late in the war -- perhaps within the last five years. It would have taken time for the winged dragons to drive back the Host of Valinor, and then for someone to get word to Earendil (I suspect there must have been some debate in Valinor over what to do about the dragons). I don't know anything about the cold drake. Probably it was killed for its treasure by some hero, but I haven't come across any stories about it, or don't remember any. Michael : Lee
