A Quotes from Dan Gookins "Dos for Dummies",1993; "An on-line debate isn't over until somoene compares someone else to Adolf Hitler" "Remember to keep it light. Adding "ha, ha" occasionally lets people know your having fun instead of being an on-line jerk." Yes, on-line debates and "flame-wars" can be very annoying, and someones typing can be easily mis-understood as being derogatory if one isn't carefull. But (no offense taken) when a discussion is monitored to the point where poeple can't express themselves appropriately, this can also add to the annoyance of communicating on-line. An example of this would be being afraid to put an exclaimation point behind a sentence, and being afraid to use a hint of sarcasim. If people have strong opinions about something, todays response is "keep it to yourself". But I think there is a difference between bashing others and senseless argueing, and simply having personal opinions that MIGHT - darn, no Italics!! ( : (; - be found offensive. Expressing personal opinions that may annoy others is just one of the aspects of living in a democratic society. We should be thankfull we don't, for the most part, have to deal with more offensive things like genocide and totalitarian oppression. Thanks for you concern though, College guy.
