: I believe back then our main argument was that I held to casting only British actors, or rather actors who could do some variation of a British accent (i.e. not Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Kevin Costner, etc.). Whereas you felt that in order to be true to Tolkien's vision of multiple languages and peoples, a variety of world accents had to be represented. : While I'm pretty dogmatic about Tolkien, I still think it should be British accents only. The language in which the story is written (stepping back from the history) is very British in terms of diction and tone (as I perceive it). : What do you think? : Along those lines, some thoughts of casting that I have had (even though Jackson apparently is going for no-names--which is good!) : Aragorn--Ralph Fiennes or Gabriel Byrne (from Usual Suspects) : Denethor--Jeremy Irons : Gandalf--Pete Postlewaite or Ian McCllelan (whatever the guy's name from Richard III) : Boromir--Liam Neeson or Gabriel Byrne : Any thoughts? I do not believe that the cast should be restricted to members of the empire. However, the names you have listed would all be phenomenal. Such a cast would bring an enormous budget. That would mean the big producers would have to get involved. I think if that happens then the movie will revolve around special effects versus the story. Hopefully, this will not happen. However the trilogy was so incredible I find it hard to imagine a single 2 hour movie could live up to the images in the minds of Tolkien fans. But given the success of "Braveheart" I could be wrong.
