One of my favourite's is the chase for the Hobbits by Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli and the introduction of the Dwarves by Gandalf to Beorn. A wonderful and humourousley written couple of pages. I've got quite a few favorites. The aforementioned Legolas vs. Gimli, the Dwarves meet Beorn, the Scouring of the Shire (I can see it all vividly in my head and I am thinking,"Hell, yes!!"). I love the song Sam sings when the Hobbits and Strider reach the stone trolls - the name escapes me...Troll sat alone or something like that. About the only parts in the books that scares me are when Frodo first starts to hear Gollum trailing them in Moria, he scales the tree in Lothlorien, and he follows them in the beginning of Book IV. Those parts give me goosebumps. I can also picture the Black Riders sniffing the roads for the four hobbits. And any and all descriptions of Hobbiton or the Shire (at least pre-Saruman). I would give up all that I own to live there forever. It sounds like the haven I've always imagined. BTW, the nearest thing to a perfect haven I've found is the NE Ohio countryside where my parents grew up. Amish country. Beautiful and quaint. Tom Bombadil's escapades are pretty cool.
